✨ Calling All Artists & Makers ✨

Light the Night AVL began as a grassroots celebration of hope, creativity, and connection — a way for our community to come together and shine light through the darkness. This year, we’re inviting artists and makers across Asheville and beyond to help bring that light to life. The creative energy of Light the Night AVL has always been fueled by the artists who make it possible — those whose imagination, craft, and spirit transform the night into something extraordinary.

Whether you create a lantern to auction, host a lantern-making gathering, or walk with us on Saturday, December 20th, your artistry helps bring this celebration to life.

Auction a Lantern

Artists are invited to create and auction a one-of-a-kind lantern to be carried in this year’s Light the Night AVL – A Winter Solstice Lantern Walk. Together, we’ll celebrate light, creativity, and community.

Design a lantern that reflects the rhythms of nature — the shifting seasons, the beauty of Mother Earth, and the light that renews us.

Safety Guidelines

  • Lanterns must be lit from within using LED or battery-powered lights (no open flames).

  • Lanterns should be portable and easy to carry by hand or on a pole during the walk.

How It Works

  • Artists manage their own auction, including marketing, bid management, payment, and delivery to the winning bidder.

  • You can promote your auction online or in person — in-studio and gallery displays often attract the most interest.

  • Artists keep 100% of proceeds and are encouraged to donate a portion to RADA or BeLoved Asheville in the spirit of community giving.

Important Dates

  • Bidding: November 28 – December 8

  • Pickup or Delivery: December 9 – 17

Tag @lightthenightavl and use #LightTheNightAVL so we can share your lanterns on Instagram stories!

Host a Lantern-Making Gathering or Class

Studios, galleries, and community spaces are invited to host lantern-making parties or workshops in the weeks leading up to Light the Night AVL.

These gatherings can be as simple or as creative as you’d like — a chance to bring people together, make a lantern, and share in the light of community.

How It Works

  • You’ll manage your own details — pricing, materials, and logistics.

Tag @lightthenightavl and use #LightTheNightAVL — we’ll gladly repost your event on our Instagram stories to help spread the word!

Make a Lantern & Walk With Us

You don’t have to host or auction anything at all — make a lantern and walk with us!

Together, we’ll celebrate the hope that connects us and the light that carries us forward.

Please share this invitation with friends, artists, and makers who might want to be part of bringing light, art,

and joy to our community this Winter Solstice.
